Making Topiaries

Hello friends,
I spent some time this weekend making some topiaries for my kitchen.I just love the rustic look of them! I think they look so pretty in any room.I made two for my kitchen, and now i'm working on two larger ones for my mantle. This takes a little time, but it's an easy project.Just watch your fingers with the hot glue gun:(( I try to be careful, but i always burn my fingers. This time i was smart, and put a bowl of ice water right next to me!!

I looked around the house to see what containers i could use. I like the taller one in the small urn,and i used a small pitcher that i use for gravy. I went out in the yard, and gathered up some sticks.I cut them to the size i wanted.Topiaries can be quite expensive, and i'm not willing to pay that price! Im not sure where they will go yet:)

I had everything i needed except the english ivy. They had a great sale at michaels this week. All the greens were 40% off.I bought a few different ones. I always buy the floral foam when it's on sale too.

wrap, and glue!!When i finished that i hot glued the stick inside the willow ball.Filled the urn with foam, centered the stick, and topped it off with some moss.

I like the english ivy!! For my mantle topiaries i'm using tiny green leaves, and larger willow balls.

Have a great day!!

Kathy,
Great idea and super cheap too.Love the urn you chose.I am going to give this a try.I am not good at caring for indoor plants well.I do better with faux.

Kathy, these look so pretty. I just purchased one today and they are downright expensive.

Hi Kathy!
I have a couple of those willow balls somewhere in the basement...they are Christmas balls and gold but I figure I could spray paint them brown or green and use them for topiaries. Ha..thanks for the idea! I hope your weekend has been a good one.

KATHY: Thanks for sharing. I made some topiarys yesterday to put on my Easter dining table (when I get the room clean!) except I used styrafoam balls and moss. They came out OK but I really like the willow balls and ivy look. They remind of those in the florist shops with those tiny little leaves that spring out all around. Don't know what the plant is called, but, you're right, they are so expensive. I might try one later on if you don't mind..Very pretty..Judy

Kathy,

So sorry to hear about the roof leak. Believe me, I understand. I hope everything can be fixed with the least amount of damage.

These look adorable! I made a little tree with cone shaped styrofoam and ivy in a similar way, but now I need to try the balls. These came out great.
